CASE STUDY: INGOT MANUFACTURER

We worked with one of the largest Aluminum and Zinc ingot producers on the US West coast to support their operations. They were using type K thermocouples with insulation sheath for their Aluminum
melt furnace. They were having issues with their thermocouple and sheath life resulting in
frequent production interruptions and high maintenance hours.

Problem Statement:

Thermocouples and sheath lasting for 3-4 days on average, unnecessary production interruptions, waste of man hours to replace.

Solution by Wilcon Industries:

At Wilcon, we provided them with our ALU Shield protection sheath which provides longer life and better quality. Also, we studied their temperature profile of the furnace and provided a Thermocouple suitable for temperature and corrosive environment.

Verification of Effectiveness:

Wilcon’s ALU Shield improved the life of thermocouples by approx. 12X. After switching to Wilcon’s ALU Shield and new Thermocouple, the customers has a better process control, less maintenance hours and better efficiency.
